Tuesdays training camp opener was Nuggets coach Michael Malones first chance to get a true look at Paul Millsap, the newly acquired power forward who is a four-time all-star for a reason.

Millsap is expected to create a formidable post duo with emerging young center Nikola Jokic, and to help a Nuggets defense that ranked near the bottom of the NBA in nearly every major statistical category last season.

What I like about him is he plays with a poise and hes never rushing, Malone said of Millsap. Hes never out of control. Hes always going to take what the defense gives him. Watching him and Nikola play off of each other was a lot of fun to see.

Big man Kenneth Faried strongly stated his desire to start for the Nuggets Monday, adding theres 29 other teams if this team doesnt want, or respect me enough, to play me the minutes that I think I deserve to play.

Malone said earlier Monday that Millsap, as expected, is the Nuggets starting power forward. When asked about Farieds comments, Malone praised Faried for taking three charges and bringing his trademark energy on the offensive glass and while finishing inside during their first practice. But the coach also said hes going to start the lineup that is best for the team.
